About Us

Lauren and Adam met in early 2010 at American University, in the “dining room” of the erstwhile Zeta Psi frat house dubbed “Brandywine House.” Lauren’s then boyfriend introduced them, saying “I think you two would really like each other.” They went on to be casual acquaintances, and spent a week snowed in together at Brandywine House along with several others during Snowmageddon 2010 (or was it Snowpocalypse?).

In spring 2011, Lauren and Adam started talking, and by fall 2011, they had really hit it off. Their first official date was to Mr. Yogato in Dupont Circle for frozen yogurt — Adam rented two Capital Bikeshare bikes, and they rode down Connecticut Ave together. Lauren was terrified, and vowed to “never do that again.” Once at the frozen yogurt shop, Lauren correctly named all the states bordering Tennessee, thoroughly impressing Adam and winning them $1 off their purchase. Anyway, it was pretty much love from then on.

Adam and Lauren spent the next few years living in Washington, DC together. Lauren graduated from American University first, and then Adam. They began their careers there — Lauren pursued professional dance, and Adam began working in the bicycle industry. Adam convinced Lauren to give riding a bike another go, and she eventually took to it (not before saying “I hate this” a few times…). They both worked a lot, but loved biking around and exploring the city’s museums, monuments, and restaurants in their spare time.

In 2014, Adam got a job as an engineering technician at Polk Audio in Baltimore, MD, and it was the start of a big shift. They moved to Baltimore for a short stint, and then made the move to San Diego, CA when Adam was promoted to engineer in 2016. They drove across the country together with their cat, Monkey, screaming the whole way.

In September 2018, Adam and Lauren traveled to Paris where, unbeknownst to Lauren, Adam would propose. On September 14, 2018, they were visiting the Palace of Versailles. After exploring the palace, they rented two bicycles and rode down along the canals. It was a beautiful, sunny day. They stopped to rest in a secluded spot, and that’s when Adam pulled out the ring and proposed. His family had given him an heirloom ring to propose with, and it turned out to be perfect for Lauren.

Lauren and Adam spent the next couple of years enjoying their engagement and planning a wedding for June 2020 in Grenada, the first place they’d ever traveled together as a couple. When coronavirus hit in spring 2020, they were incredibly disappointed to postpone the celebration indefinitely. Amidst the uncertainty of that time, they decided to get married anyway at the courthouse in downtown San Diego. It was an intimate, joyful day, but bittersweet to not be surrounded by close family and friends like they’d hoped.

Adam and Lauren love adventures. They love exploring San Diego, hiking, biking, traveling, and cats (especially their cat Monkey). They love going to dance performances and music concerts, record stores and book stores. They love their family and their friends, and are looking forward to finally celebrating with everyone soon!
